We are pained to chronicle the death of our townsman S W Scovern, who has suffered with a cancer of the tongue for several months, until Monday at 4 pm when exhausted nature succumbed to the great destroyer.
Samuel Wass Scovern was born at St Clairville, Ohio, Aug 31 1842 and was therefore barely in his 40th year--the prime of manhood.
He was one of our most enterprising citizens, a man of great energy, intelligence and integrity, a citizen of Jefferson for about 15 yrs, a member of the Masonic order, a kind husband, devoted father and faithful friend. Not only will his brothers and excellent aunt, his children and stricken companion
mourn his loss, but the entire community, who have so often met him in business or social interchange, will long regret his sudden death.
The funeral will take place from the family residence on High street this afternoon at 2 o'clock.
