The family and friends of Mary Ann Nowak are saddened by her passing at Grand River Hospital on May 22, 2011, in her 85th. year. Beloved sister of Ted, Anne, Eddie (Pauline), and Frank (Marie), and sister-in-law of Mary and Isabel. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and her cousins.
Predeceased by her parents, Walter and Anna Nowak, her brothers, Joe, Stanley and Wally, her sister, Adele, her brother-in-law, John, sister-in-law, Florence, and her niece, Lucyll. Mary was deeply committed to her faith in God, which permeated every aspect of her life. Everyone who knew Mary called her "brilliant". A Masters graduate of University of Toronto, she also studied at the Sorbonne University in France. Returning to Canada, she taught high school in Niagara Falls, Toronto and Cambridge. Due to health issues, she directed her teaching to private tutoring, which she enjoyed immensely. She also loved teaching piano and performing in retirement homes with her sister Anne. Mary was also a prolific writer; her editorials were published in many newspapers. She contributed to the Polish Community with her many talents. Relatives and friends will be received at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home and Chapel, 51 Benton at Church St. Kitchener on Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 pm. (Prayers at 3:30pm.) followed by a funeral Mass of Christian Burial from St. Anne's Church, 268 East Ave., Kitchener on Friday May 27th, 2011 at 11:00 am. Cremation. Thanks to the caring staff at Freeport and Grand River Hospital, and especially to Mary's sister, Anne who provided much care and support throughout her life. As expressions of sympathy, donations in Mary's memory may be made to Canadian Food for Children. "Develop a Passion for Learning. If you do, you'll never cease to grow" (Anthony D'Angelo)
