16051	Obituary December 28, 2011 the Chattanoogan.com Hester Lorea Gilliam, 96, of Chattanooga, Tn. died on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in a local health care facility. A native of Albertville, Ala., she was the daughter if the late Joel and Cludie Mae Cranford. Mrs. Gilliam was a longtime employee of United Hosiery Mill. She was a passionate gardener and longstanding member of Summit Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Gilliam and a daughter Jacqueline Berry. Survivors include her granddaughter, Lisa Berry; brothers, Rev. Dairrell Cranford and Milford Cranford; sister, Ruth Hall and several nieces and nephews. The family will gather with friends at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, for a graveside ceremony conducted by Mrs. Gilliam's brother, Reverend Dairrell Cranford. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home. 16054	Obituary Coshocton Tribune 17 Sept 1939 William Stonehocker, 82, of Clowville, died in City hospital at 4 pm Saturday of injuries suffered Fridya night when he was run down by a hit-skip motorist on the South Sixth St. bank. Mr. Stonehocker, an aold age pensioner, was believed walking to the small shack in Clowville where he lived along when he was hit from behind by the auto. 16056	Obituary for Annie Easton Hood (19 July 1962) Star Valley Independent Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Afton Second-Third Ward Chapel for Mrs Annie Easton Hood, who died in a rest home in Salt Lake City Tuesday. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Mrs Hood was a lifelong pioneer resident of Star valley, and moved to the rest home only a short time ago, after she became aged and feeble. The Independent will endeavor to have a suitable obituary in next week's issue. Funeral Services Are Held for Annie E. Hood Funeral services were held Saturday, July 21 in the Afton LDS Second Third Ward Chapel for Annie Easton Hood, who died July 17 in a Salt Lake City rest home. Services were conducted by Bp. Neal Kennington. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery. Annie Easton was born on Sept 26, 1874 in Wallacestone Stirlingshire, Scotland, the daughter of Alexander and Janet Wetherspoon Easton. Her formal schooling ws received at Longrigg, Lanarkshire, Scotland until she was 11 years of age at which time with her mother and four brothers, set sail from Liverpool England for America. They arrived in New York City in June of 1886, and Annie, her mother and brother, William went to a small town in Illinois. Her other brothers went to Richfield, Utah where they soon heard of the coal mines near Almy Wyo. Being coal miners, they sent for the rest of the family in Illinois. Annie was baptized a member of the LDS Church soon after they moved to Wyoming. When 14, Annie met her future husband, Thomas Hood, when he threw a snowball at her, thus beginning a courtship that resulted in marriage 2 1/2 years later on June 28, 1890. They were married in Almy and then traveled to Logan to be sealed in the temple. They lived in Almy for two years and moved to Star Valley in July 1892, when homestead land was opened for settlement. While unloading the wagon in Star Valley, Mr Hood was accidentally shot in the arm by his shotgun. The wound took about a year to heal. Annie was left alone much of the time the first winter in Star Valley, as Mr Hood had to work and could not get home some of the time. During the next 12 years they moved back and forth from Star Valley to Almy several times. In 1912 they bought ground near Fairview and built a home. here, the last two sons were born, making 13 children in all. In 1923 the family moved to Frontier, Wyo., where they lived for eight years until the depression in 1931. They moved back to Fairview, where Mr Hood passed away in September 1931/ Annie lived in Star Valley until 1961, when she went to Salt Lake City to the Crestwood Rest Home to live. She moved to Afton in 1941. She loved to sing and did so many times with church and civic groups. In 1904 she went to Salt Lake and studied music under Evan Stephans, the famed Tabernacle Choir leader. Mrs Hood was preceded in death by seven of her 13 children, Thomas, Mary, James, Clarence, Annie, Bessie and flora. Her six living children are Janet, Beatrice, Ralph, Easton, Neil and Francis. Her posterity numbers well over 200. It was stated at her funeral that she lived a full rich life. Those attending the funeral from out of town were: Mr and Mrs William I. 16057	Obituary for Bert Leavitt Bert Randall Leavitt was born September 29, 1925 in Mesa, Arizona, the son of Joseph Collins and Blanche Allen. He moved to the Gila Valley after he met and married Gracie Booth, of Central, in August of 1981. For several years Bert was employed at Eastern Arizona College where he worked as a groundskeeper. As a young man, Bert served his country in the United Stated Coast Guard during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, Bert later served a mission in Western Canada from 1947 until 1949. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Central Second Ward. Bert leaves to mourn: his wife of 32 years, Gracie; his son, Joseph; two daughters, Murial Fujimoto and Moneta Jensen; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Bert was predeceased by: his wife, Rosalie Kelly; his mother, Blanche; his father, Joseph; a sister, Barbara Lanier; and a son, Floyd. 16061	Obituary for Lila Irene Taylor: Lila Irene Price, 65, of Thayne, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 in her home after a valiant battle with cancer. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 in the Thayne LDS Stake Center. Burial took place in the Afton Cemetery. Irene was born July 15, 1949 in Afton, the daughter of Merrill Taylor and Norma Lindberg. She grew up in Star Valley and spent most of her life in the valley that she loved. Irene attended Rick’s College, earning her Associate’s Degree in 1968. Irene married George Thompson on Jan. 2, 1969 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Later she married Clark Price, on Feb. 2, 1982 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Irene was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a ward missionary, in the Relief Society, Primary and Young Women’s programs and also was a Scout Leader. She is survived by her husband, Clark, of Thayne; her children, Dusty Lynn Reilly, Thayne; Rex Price, Thayne; Scott Thompson, Ogden; John Price, Orem; Seth Price, St. George; and Rebecca Price, St. George ; and 10 grandchildren. 16062	Obituary for Thomas Hood (22 Oct 1931) - Star Valley Independent Thomas H. Hood, son of Peter and Mary Neil Hood was born in Scotland in 1868 and died October 10, 1921 at Fairview. He came to America with his mother in 1882, his father had come to America some time before to prepare a place for this family among the L.D.S. people. The family settled at Almy Wyoming. In 1890 he and Annie Easton were united in marriage in the Logan temple. In 1892 this young couple with one baby moved to Fairview, Wyo. where they have always had a home. Music was Bro. Hood's hobby, and he made the most of his ability along that line. While he was in the State Legislature he was i9nstrumental in getting several bills passed, among them was the "ban bill". At that time Bro Hood was appointed State Band Master. The family have the pen that Governor Emerson used to sign the bill, and a little note which read: This pen was used by Gov. F. C. Emerson in signing the "Band Bill" (O.H.B. No 25) H.E.A No.17 at 10:57 A.M. February 4, 1929. Some of the other bills he helped to pass were bills to i8mprove mining conditions. Bro. Hood labored in the mines for several years. He worked himself up to the responsible position of Gas Inspector, which he held for eight years. He was highly recommended for the job by P.J. Quealy. Before Bro. Hood left Almy he had organized a band. Soon after he reached Fairview he organized "The Free silver Band" which he kept going for years. In Kemmerer at the time of the mine explosion when 99 men were killed, Bro Hood made a canvas of the city and raised $2500.00 to buy musical instruments for the boys and girls and taught them to play free of charge, thus bringing much peace and contentment to those who were mourning. Since his return from Kemmerer, where he has been for the past eight years he had already organized the Valley Band and the Children's Band. While he was Star Valley Stake chorister, he gave a concert every three months. One of his most ourstanding pieces of work was the rendition of the "Vision". He was the Fairview ward chorister for many years; he also served in this same position while he lived at Kemmerer. He leaves his widow and nine children to mourn his loss. The children are: Mrs Will Gomm, Huntsville, Ut. Mrs Paul Robinson, Los Angeles, Cal. Mrs Roy Beachler and Ralph Hood of Kemmerer, Mrs Erza Campbell, Easton, Flora, Niel and Francis of Fairview. Funeral services were held Wednesday October 14th at 1 p.m. Bishop brown presided and conducted the services. Mrs Roy Beachler, daughter of the deceased played a beautiful funeral march. The choir under the direction of Ronald Allred sang "Praise to the Man". Prayer by N. P. Lee. Arch Gardner and Nellie Roberts sang "An Angel From on High", with the choir joining in the chorus. The first speaker, Bro Wilford Cranney of Smoot, thought it should be a time of rejoicing, because Bro Hood was so well prepared to go. He said Bro Hood had made use of the talent God gave him, by teaching music wherever he went and that he always had a ready hand to help those less fortunate than himself. Arch, Dean, Lloyd and Ivan Gardner sang "Loves Old Sweet Song". President Clarence Gardner said that nothing turns us to each other more than song. He said Bro Hood's life was one of song and harmony and that the person was lucky indeed, who could look back and see that his life had been one of usefulness as the case with Bro. Hood. He was very glad that we, as a people believe in the here-after. Bishop Brown stated he was glad that we hadn't waited until bro Hood was dead, to speak our words of appreciation. 16063	Obituary for Willard LaGrand Nielsen 1907 ~ 2010 Willard LaGrand Nielsen peacefully passed away Saturday, 10 April 2010, in Sandy. He was 102. Born in Hyrum, Utah in 1907, LaGrand became a dentist and served for 29 years as an Army Officer. His patients included causalities from the Battle of the Bulge, as well as General and Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower and General and Mrs. Mark Clark. Upon retirement, he was awarded the "Legion of Merit", the Army's highest decoration for peacetime service. He served four missions for his church and became an international athlete in his retirement years. In addition to being a fine family man, he was a religious leader, and a Scouter. LaGrand is survived by four of his children. He also has 20 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren. His wife Beatrice (1988) and one daughter (1937) preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at the LDS church building 2195 E. Pepperwood Dr., Sandy, Utah at 2:30 p.m., Friday, 16 April 2010. Descendants of LaGrand and Bea will greet relatives and friends immediately following the service. 16075	Obituary- Complications Take Life of Coshocton County Farmer, 75 A lingering illness from complication took the life of Geroge Stomehocerk, prominent Coshocton county farmer and a lifelongresident of the Coshocton Route 3 farm on which he died at 8:40 p.m. Sunday. He was 75. Born 13 Feb 1864 he was the son of Daniel and Mary Stonehocker. He had never married and at hisdeath was the last of the Stonehocker family. 16076	Obituary: Manti, Utah - Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Mary Mavon Nelson Herring, age 84, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 in Gunnison, Utah. She was born November 19, 1927 in Richfield, Utah, a daughter of Joseph Outzen and Luella Jane Stolworthy Nelson. She graduated from Richfield High School, Class of 1945. She attended Snow College in Ephraim where she received a Secretarial Certificate. Mavon married Jack W. Herring, December 27, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later divorced. Mom worked as a Library Technician at Snow College and also at the Sanpete County Courthouse. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as Young Women's President; Primary President; on the Stake Relief Society Board; Relief Society Counselor; Primary, Young Women, Sunday School and Relief Society Teacher; missionary in the Texas Dallas Mission from October 1978 to April 1980; she worked at the Family History Center and loved doing family Genealogy. She was a member of the DUP Camp Manti and served on the Destiny Committee. She enjoyed water color painting, writing family histories, reading and traveling the world. She is survived by her three daughters: Karla and Voin Campbell of Manti; Kathleen and Larry Sorensen of Kanab; Randa Jo and Larry Black of Ephraim; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Garn and Phyllis Nelson of Richfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe "Texaco Joe" and Luella Nelson. 16077	Obituary: LaVivian Herzog, 70, of Grover died Thursday, March 1, 1984 in the Star Valley Hospital of kidney and heart failure. Funeral services were held Monday, March 5 at 12 noon in the Grover LDS Ward with Bp. Richard V. Kennington officiating. Interment was in the Grover Cemetery. She was born March 21, 1913 in Grover to Soren Albert and Mary Sophia Jacobsen Jensen. She grew up in Grover and attended grade school and high school in the valley. She was a skilled cook and worked at the Valleon Cafe, Star Valley Drug, Star Valley Creamery and as a nurses aid in Preston, Idaho. She did handiwork and made quilts and crocheted. She raised a lovely vegetable and flower garden. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed being in the mountains. She married Albert Taylor, June 29, 1930. He died June 3, 1977. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various positions including Relief Society secretary and teacher in the MIA, Primary and Relief Society. 16078	Obituary: Leon Packer Taylor KALISPELL - Leon Packer Taylor passed away on Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at the Brendan House in Kalispell after a brief battle with cancer. Leon was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Preston, Idaho, to Vaughn Franklin and Anna Parkinson (Packer) Taylor. He attended schools in the Weston, Idaho, area and at age 15 entered a job training program in Logan, Utah, in general metals. He found that he had a great talent for welding and this proved to direct the course of his career for the rest of his life. He got a job as a welder in a shipyard in California and then joined the Navy and was a welder on an aircraft carrier, the USS Corrigador, for about 2 1/2 years during World War II. Leon married Loretta Rae Griffiths on March 18, 1943, in Weston, Idaho. They were sealed in the Logan (Utah) Temple of The Church of Latter-day Saints on Nov. 16, 1945. After a short stay in California, Leon and Loretta bought a farm in Preston, Idaho, and then a potato farm in Whitehall. After a short stay in Butte, they moved to Missoula in 1959 where Leon worked for Western Foundry, welding parts for bridge beams. In 1969, Leon started working for the Champion International Paper Mill in Missoula where he worked for 20 years as a maintenance supervisor and did specialized maintenance on boilers. In 1979, the Taylors moved to Pablo, beginning 22 fun-filled years of retirement. In 1983, Leon had a stroke, paralyzing the left side of his body. After extensive therapy and great determination, he regained some movement on the left side of his face and leg. He used this difficult experience to help others with similar experiences. He understood their struggles and had a joke and a golf cart ride ready to lift their spirits. In 1987, Leon and Loretta began wintering in Mesa, Ariz., and summering in Montana. Leon's greatest joys were his family and making people laugh. He and Loretta recently spent their 60th wedding anniversary in Hawaii with their children. Leon was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors of Montana. His family and friends will miss him very much. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Loretta Taylor of Kalispell and his seven children, Dennis Taylor and wife Emily of Missoula, Cheryl Wraught and husband Frank of Kalispell, Vyonne Zentner and husband Robert of Bullhead City, Ariz., Bradley Taylor and wife Julie of Sheridan, Wyo., Blaine Taylor and wife Annie of Virginia Beach, Va., Michelle Lies and husband Mark of Great Falls and Lisa Hager and husband DeJohn of Eagle Mountain, Utah; 28 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, LaPriel Price and husband Eugene of Brigham City, Utah, and Norma Bayes and husband Ted of Red Bluff, Calif.; brothers DeMar Taylor and wife Joanne, Keith Taylor and wife Rhea and Garth Taylor and wife Norma, all of Dillon, and Paul Taylor and wife Diane of Polson; and numerous extended family members. 16080	Obituary: Ralph Robert Herzog, 67, of Grover, died Friday, June 3, 1977 of a heart attack while fishing at the East Table creek Campground in Snake River Canyon. Funeral services were held Monday in the Grover Ward Chapel with Bp R. Blair Allen conducting. He was buried in the Grover Cemetery. Ralph was born Dec 6, 1909 and raised in Geneva, Idaho on his father's farm. His parents were Ephraim and Rose Herzog. He attended school in Geneva and high school and college in Logan. He worked for a time in Idaho Falls, then moved to Afton and started a tire shop in 1946. For many years Ralph was a guide for elk hunters, working for Dick Taylor and later Steve Clark and Eugene Heap. He operated a farm in Grover and was the first to install a sprinkler system in that area. Ralph was married to Rita Bench in Logan, and later divorced. On Sept 3, 1947, he married LaVivian Taylor in Preston, Idaho. He served in the armed forces during World War II, with overseas service in Okinawa in 1945-46. He also served as water-master of the Grover Canal for many years and as a director of the Star Valley Wildlife Club. Ralph was a High Priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a counselor in the Sunday School presidency in the Grover Ward. He was later sustained as Sunday School president. He was also a home teacher. He is survived by his wife LaVivian; four daughters, Mrs Dallas (Laura Dean) Tolman of Fairview; Mrs Nord (Joy) Wilkes of Afton; Mrs Farrell (Naomi) Johnson of Auburn; and Mrs Leo (RaNae) Doser of Caldwell, Idaho; and two sons, Nolan Taylor of Afton and Robert Herzog of Nampa, Idaho. 16082	Obituary: 1/18/1923 ~ 8/28/2004 Olen Berney Cranford of Springville departed this life August 28, 2004 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by Hazel Cranford, his wife of 49 years; and two sons, Joel Cranford of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Garland Cranford of Saratoga Springs, Utah; their wives; and eight grandchildren. Born January 18, 1923 in Albertville, Alabama as one of twelve children. He was raised on a farm during the Great Depression, graduated from school in Tennessee, and joined the military in World War II. He served in both the Army and Navy and fought in Eu-rope under General George Patton. In the postwar years, he married Hazel Cranford of Chattanooga, Tennessee; had two sons and worked for NASA for 20 years, helping America put a man on the moon. During his lifetime, he was active in the LDS Church, many civic organizations, the Boy Scouts of America, was a Civil Air Patrol pilot, a Golden Gloves boxing champion, and an avid sports fan. 16083	Obituary: AFTON - Afton resident Vernal Taylor, 90, died Feb. 4, 2004. Born Nov. 6, 1913, in Fairview, he was the youngest of 12 children of Franklin and Priscilla (Merrill) Taylor; attended school in Montpelier, Idaho, and Logan, Utah; and graduated from Star Valley High School in Afton. On Nov. 14, 1934, he married his sweetheart, Wilda Linford, in Paris, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized on Dec. 22, 1936, in the Salt Lake Utah Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and two of his brothers farmed together and took care of their widowed mother. He also hauled milk to the creamery with a team and wagon. In 1943, the couple bought a farm north of Afton. To make ends meet, the family spent a winter in Kemmerer so he could work in the coal mines; and a winter in Ogden, Utah, during World War II, working in a factory. In addition to farming, milking cows and raising livestock, he drove a school bus for 17 years; and was known as a favorite driver in the area. He and his wife sold their farm in 1975 and moved into Afton. An active member of the LDS Church, he held many positions and enjoyed regularly attending the temple. In 1981, he and his wife served in the Charlotte, N.C., Mission for 18 months; and he also served a stake mission. For many years, the couple enjoyed winters in St. George, Utah, and summers in Afton. Survivors include his wife of 69 years; four children, Gloria Mower of St. George, Brent and his wife of Rock Springs, Linford and his wife of Evanston and Trenna Gailey and her husband of Clifton, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marie Creamer of Boise, Idaho. 16084	Obituary: Brent Vernal Taylor was born on May 9, 1942 in Afton, the son of Vernal and Wilda (Linford) Ta7ylor. Brent passed away on June 27, 2012 at the age of 70. Brent married Naida Murray on April 6, 1975 in Green River, Wyo. He served our country first in the National Guard and then was called up to serve in the Army in 1964. He was a member of the Plumbering and Pipe Fitters Union 192 as a Master Plumber for 43 years. His work took him all over the western United States as part of construction teams for hospitals, schools and high rise buildings. Following his retirement and relocation to Cortez, Colo., area he gave many hours of dedication to the Lewis Arriola Community Care center as a care taker. Those hours included general care, planting of trees, and constructing a baseball diamond. Brent was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Naida (Murray) Tina (Mark) Bihr of Casper; Sherry Taylor of Pinedale; and Leneda (Dustin) Daves of Waumsutter; his two sons, Randy of Butte, Mont.; and Shane (Robyne) of Cortez; and three granddaughters, Erica Lansing; Tiana bihr; and Kacey starr. 16092	Obituary: Sadie Mae Jolley Warr passed away quietly on Sunday, January 23, 2011. She resided at 513 East 300 North in Payson, Utah at the time of her death. She was born February 1, 1919 in Moroni, Utah to Daniel William and Anna Laura Teeples Jolley. She married Rex Franklin Warr on June 4, 1937, and they were later sealed in the Manti Temple. Sadie owned and operated her own Beauty Shop out of her home for many years in Payson, Utah. She was kind, compassionate, and enjoyable to be with. Everyone who knew her loved her. She was a very caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved being around people, especially her family. Her favorite activity was her annual family Christmas party. Her eyes lit up with delight each time one of her grandchildren or great-grand-children sat on Santa's lap. Her genuine care for others was manifested frequently as she did things she loved--particularly as she volunteered at the Peteetneet Academy in Payson and especially as she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Mountain View Hospital. She loved to sew, knit, and crochet, and she found joy in bestowing her talents on many grateful recipients. She had a beautiful yard, and enjoyed the many hours she spent taking care of it. She especially enjoyed gardening and she loved being able to give fresh fruits and vegetables to her family, neighbors, and friends. She was also an avid sports fan. She particularly loved to watch the Jazz and BYU play. Sadie was active in the LDS Church, serving in many different capacities throughout her life. 16093	Obituary: UINTAH - On Saturday, October 20, 2012 Peggy Provstgaard Warr passed away peacefully in the arms of her family. Peggy Provstgaard Warr was born to Burl Frost and Donald Robert Provstgaard on October 5, 1941 in Payson, Utah, where she was raised and educated. She married Ronald Rex Warr on June 30, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple. She worked as a Ward Clerk at McKay Dee Hospital for several years. After retiring in 1998, she devoted her time and energy to care for her husband Ronald, who died of pancreatic cancer shortly after. Peggy was an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a friend to many. She helped with anything she could and was kind to everyone. She loved to serve everyone and anyone, and shared her love with many. She served in many capacities in her church including that of a Young Women's leader where she instilled Christ-like values in the young women. She also served in the Relief Society Presidency and served as a temple worker in the Ogden Temple. In addition, she served a faithful and honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California, San Diego Mission. Peggy was always willing to give of her talents and time throughout her life. 16094	Obituary: Von D. Allred passed away of natural causes at his home with family members present on November 17, 2007. Von was born in Star Valley on June 24, 1922 to Edwin Nelson Allred and Sarah Jane Nield. He was the youngest of nine children. He was blessed with an inquisitive and inventive mind for which he was known throughout his life.He had the ability to make or fix almost anything. He graduated from Star Valley High School in 1940 and repaired radios at home in the winter of 1940 and 1941. He attended Utah state Agricultural College in Logan, Utah. With his father and brothers, Von broke up many acres of natural sod and brush which became some of the first dry farm land in the valley. On February 2, 1944 he married LaNea Taylor in the Logan Temple. They had four sons, David, Edwin, Michael and Mark. Von served in the United States Army in 1945 and 1946. After the army, Von returned to Star Valley and started a radio repair and propane gas business while continuing to run his farm. He purchased a D4 Caterpillar Tractor and hired out pushing roads, clearing canals, skidding logs, and digging basements, he later worked in management for three manufacturing companies in Afton; IMCO, Polaris Industries and a cheese processing company. He also along with his son, Mark, started Special Products Company. His hobbies included prospecting, inventing, fishing, and camping. He staked and maintained numerous mineral clams and a salt mine. During his life, Von was always active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings including; Councilor in the bishopric, stake clerk, ward clerk and stake high councilor. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, his son David, one grandson, and one great-grandson. 16095	Obituary: Clarence A. (Tye) Nelson Dies Of Heart Attack- Clarence A. Nelson, 80, prominent Afton citizen, died Saturday, Aug 30, of a coronary occlusion at the Star Valley LDS Hospital. He suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized two days before. Clarence Andrew Nelson was born Nov 29, 1897 to Danish immigrant parents, Christian and Caroline Nelson at Grover, Wyo. "Uncle Tye" as he was most commonly called, was the seventh child in a family of nine. Only two brothers survive: Mariner Nelson and Harvey Nelson. Preceding him in death besides his parents were the following brothers and sisters: Henry and Orville Nelson, Minnie Williamson, Lillie Hink, Dora Kimball and Stenie Hurd. He was schooled at Grover and Afton. His father died when he was only twelve and he set out on his own, herding sheep and working on the freight road to help support his mother. When still a boy he and Irven Jensen traveled with the Grover Dramatic Company and sang between acts of the plays. Later he acted in the plays and participated with this and other groups entertaining in both upper and lower valleys even after his marriage. In 1921 he started work in the Star Valley Creameries. He managed the Mutual Plant at Etna for three years and the Kraft Plant in Freedom before coming to Afton. He owned and operated the Bedford Creamery for several years with C.S. Wray. For 30 years he did not miss a day of work due to illness until last spring when he was confined to the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City and the LDS Hospital in Afton for about six weeks. He has always been a very active and industrious man who was interested in ranching as a hobby. He loved horses, and to ride the green hills and canyons enjoying the beauties of nature. He always had sheep to care for, and the last few years, stock cattle. He was a volunteer fireman when the Afton Fire Department was first organized. He served four years with the Afton Town Council under Mayor O.L. Treloar M.D. and was serving on the town building committee at the time of his death. In the church he has worked in the MIA, as a ward teacher, on the budget committee and for 12 years he was stake senior Aaronic priesthood secretary a job he held at the time of his death. On April 12 1922 his marriage to Eva Lavaun Nield was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. To this union were born three children: Vona Vee Luthi, Neal A. Nelson and Joan Brog. Ziba married Hanna Pattee in Goffstown, Hillsborough, NH and moved on to Morgan County OH. Micah married his first wife in Morgan County, OH. It is possible that they are brother or first cousins. I could not, however, locate the parents of either of them. Here is more detail.
