    • Obituary:
      Von D. Allred passed away of natural causes at his home with family members present on November 17, 2007. Von was born in Star Valley on June 24, 1922 to Edwin Nelson Allred and Sarah Jane Nield. He was the youngest of nine children.
      He was blessed with an inquisitive and inventive mind for which he was known throughout his life.He had the ability to make or fix almost anything. He graduated from Star Valley High School in 1940 and repaired radios at home in the winter of 1940 and 1941. He attended Utah state Agricultural College in Logan, Utah. With his father and brothers, Von broke up many acres of natural sod and brush which became some of the first dry farm land in the valley.
      On February 2, 1944 he married LaNea Taylor in the Logan Temple. They had four sons, David, Edwin, Michael and Mark.
      Von served in the United States Army in 1945 and 1946. After the army, Von returned to Star Valley and started a radio repair and propane gas business while continuing to run his farm.
      He purchased a D4 Caterpillar Tractor and hired out pushing roads, clearing canals, skidding logs, and digging basements, he later worked in management for three manufacturing companies in Afton; IMCO, Polaris Industries and a cheese processing company.
      He also along with his son, Mark, started Special Products Company. His hobbies included prospecting, inventing, fishing, and camping. He staked and maintained numerous mineral clams and a salt mine.
      During his life, Von was always active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings including; Councilor in the bishopric, stake clerk, ward clerk and stake high councilor.
      He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, his son David, one grandson, and one great-grandson. He is survived by his wife, LaNea, a brother Paul, a sister Josie and sons; Edwin (Linda), Michael (Sheryl), Mark (Darlene), daughter-in-law Ivy, 20 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. Services were held at the Afton Tabernacle November 24 at 1 p.m. with internment at the Afton Cemetery.
