| 15035 | Lycurgus Johnson was born in Brennam, Washington County, Texas, August 25, 1844 to Nancy Reddick Greer and Willis Johnson. His father died when Lycurgus was about 8 years old. Mormon missionaries converted his mother and some of his older siblings in 1854 and the next year most of the family traveled by wagon to Salt Lake, Utah. Lycurgus lived with his mother, brother Alfred, sisters Victoria and Nancy, and cousin Adeline York in the Greater Salt Lake 6th Ward until after 1860. The family then moved to the Bear Lake area of northern Utah and lived there for about 10 years. Lycurgus married Cora Isabella Davis 1 March 1867 and had their first child Willis Lycurgus in St. Charles, Idaho on the northwest end of Bear Lake. The family moved to the south end of Bear Lake and there Willis died in September 1870. The couple had seven children in the Bear Lake area but only Warren, Alfred, and Snellen lived past the age of 2. Lycurgus was appointed Constable of the Lake Precinct of Rich County on August 1, 1870. Having been asked by Church leaders, in 1878 they moved along with his brother Alfred Summers Johnson, Joseph Hardy Sr., and Allen Davis families to Ashley Valley or the area of present day Vernal, Utah. Nancy Reddick Greer Johnson Sprouse, the mother of Lycurgus, was killed in a tragic accident on the way to Ashley Valley. In 1879 excitement with the Indians forced families to move their cabins to Ashley Town which was located 2.5 miles northwest of Vernal. Lycurgus was about 35 years old at this time. He opened one of the first stores in Ashley Town. He became the second postmaster of the valley in September 1879 and was also elected the first sheriff on August 2, 1880 and served for two terms. He served three terms as Selectman, 1882 to 1888 while acting as Deputy United States Marshal. Four children were born in Ashley Town including Clarence, Nancy, Cora and Hazel. They lived in Ashley Town for nine years. Lycurgus built the 2nd flour mill in Ashley Valley in 1885 which operated for over 20 years. After 7 years he finished building the ?Rock House? in 1888 from large stones cut from Ashley Canyon. The home stood on 19 acres complete with excellent irrigation and built close to the flour mill. The family then moved to Maeser and lived there for twenty years. He moved his store from Ashley Town to Vernal and sold general merchandise and furniture under the name L. Johnson & Sons as all his sons participated in his business ventures. Lycurgus represented Ashley Valley in the Territorial Assembly in 1890 and also in the Constitutional Convention in 1894 and became one of the 99 signers of the Utah constitution in 1895. In the late 1890?s Lycurgus won vast contracts including duty to supply the government with wood at $3.50 per cord and 80,000 pounds of bran at $1.30 per hundred. He was appointed the general contractor for the building of the Stake Tabernacle in Vernal in 1900 and completed that work in 1907. In 1905 Lycurgus was elected Mayor of Vernal and filled the office January 2, 1906. By the end of this life he had acquired considerable real estate and wealth through vast enterprises including commerce, stock, water interests, and mining. He died June 29, 1908 and is buried at the Rockpoint Cemetery in Vernal. | Family F2

| 15036 | Mabel C. Stonehocker was born Aug 1890 in Colfax, Jasper Co., IA. She married a Leo Hugo Thiessen (born Nov. 1, 1890 in Keystone, Benton Co., IA). They married about 1915. Winnefred Thiessen was the only child born of this marriage. Winnie was born about 1917 in Keystone, Benton, IA. Leo Hugo Thiessen died between 1917 and 1922, perhaps in World War I. Widow Mabel C. Stonehocker-Thiessen married the older brother of Leo Hugo Thiessen. HUGO Thiessen was born Jan 10, 1882, in Keystone, Benton, IA. They married about 1922. He died Sept 1964 in IA. The only child of this marriage was Helen L. Thiessen born about 1924 in Keystone, Benton, IA. Until I checked the 1925 Iowa State Census and saw that child Winnefred and child Helen L. Thiessen did not have the same fathers, I had thought that Mabel C. Stonehocker's husband Leo Hugo Thiessen and Hugo Thiessen, listed in various US Census, were one in the same. Wrong! After checking on the Thiessen family in US Census, I realized that Leo Hugo was a younger brother to Hugo. Various US Census gave me much info on the two young men as well as World War I draft cards information. I found this little tidbit worth passing along for the greater Stonehocker Family Tree as it might make a difference to someone far in the future. | Stonehocker, Mabel C. (I949)

I have so many things to see and do> You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears: Be happy that we have had so many years. I gave you love, you can only guess-- How much you gave me in happiness. I thank you for the love each of you have shown-- But now it is time for me to travel on alone. So grieve awhile if you must; Then let your grieve be comforted by trust. So bless the memmories within your heart: I won't be far away for life goes on -- Though you cannot see or touch me , I'll be near. | 15050 | Margarita Van Slichtenhorst by Stefan Bielinski Margarita Van Slichtenhorst was born at Nykerk in the Netherlands in 1628 - the daughter of Brant Van Slichtenhorst and Aeltje Van Wenkum. She came to New Netherland with her parents in 1647 and came of age in Rensselaerswyck where her father served as director of the colony. In December 1650, she married Philip Pieterse Schuyler - an immigrant carpenter who, following the marriage, became one of the leading traders of Beverwyck/Albany. The marriage produced twelve children between 1652 and 1672. Eight of those offspring went on to establish the Schuyler family in Albany and beyond. By the 1660s, these Schuylers were established in a new house on upper State Street. Before his death in 1683, Philip Pieterse had stretched the Schuyler family holdings by acquiring property around Albany and beyond. A widow at age 55, by virtue of their joint will filed in 1683, Margarita Schuyler assumed control of her husband's extensive estate. From her Albany house and at the farm known as "the Flats," Margarita continued her husband's business and sat as the matriarch of early Albany's foremost family. Her children included Pieter Schuyler - first mayor of the city; Alida, the wife of Robert Livingston; and future mayor - Johannes Schuyler. Her other offspring established themselves in favored locations throughout the region. Margarita Van Slichenhorst Schuyler lived until 1711. For much of that time, she was one of colonial Albany's most prominent residents. This active widow participated in business, landholding, and was an active member of theDutch Church. Surrounded by family and supported by a number of slaves, this able women's life was full and advantaged. Her will, filed in 1707, identified her as a "sometime...Albany merchant" and mentioned the real and personal estate she had acquired since the death of her husband. This seventy-nine-year-old widow had the presence of mind to circumvent English inheritance laws when she divided the Schuyler estate equally among her eight surviving children and their heirs. She died at age eighty-two on January 11, 1711. http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/albany/bios/vs/mvslicht.html | Van Schlichtenhorst, Margarita (I1206)
