    Obituary:

    Manti, Utah - Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Mary Mavon Nelson Herring, age 84, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 in Gunnison, Utah.

    She was born November 19, 1927 in Richfield, Utah, a daughter of Joseph Outzen and Luella Jane Stolworthy Nelson. She graduated from Richfield High School, Class of 1945. She attended Snow College in Ephraim where she received a Secretarial Certificate.

    Mavon married Jack W. Herring, December 27, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later divorced.

    Mom worked as a Library Technician at Snow College and also at the Sanpete County Courthouse.

    She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as Young Women's President; Primary President; on the Stake Relief Society Board; Relief Society Counselor; Primary, Young Women, Sunday School and Relief Society Teacher; missionary in the Texas Dallas Mission from October 1978 to April 1980; she worked at the Family History Center and loved doing family Genealogy. She was a member of the DUP Camp Manti and served on the Destiny Committee. She enjoyed water color painting, writing family histories, reading and traveling the world.

    She is survived by her three daughters: Karla and Voin Campbell of Manti; Kathleen and Larry Sorensen of Kanab; Randa Jo and Larry Black of Ephraim; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Garn and Phyllis Nelson of Richfield.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe "Texaco Joe" and Luella Nelson.

    Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25, 2012 in the Manti LDS Stake Center, 555 East Union Street in Manti, where friends may call for viewing Friday morning rior to the services.

    Burial will be Friday afternoon at 3:30 P.M. in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
