      1902 HIST: Nov 2002 letter from Connie Clapier to Pam Wagner pg 35: "John Hinton was born in Mission WA which is situated on the Wenatchee River and platted in 1895 as Mission by J. F. Woodring and I.W. Sherman, the town draws its name from a Jesuit mission which had been built in 1863. It was changed to the present name of Cashmere in 1902 by Judge James H. Chase, who had visited the Vale of Kashmir in India and liked the name, and also because another town in the state carried the name of Mission."
