    • CHRISTENING: "Search for the Passengers of the Mary & John, 1630" by Burton W. Spear, vol 7, pg. 111. Lists parents. - D0004
      Place: Holy Trinity, Dorset, Eng.
MARRIAGE: "Search", vol 7, pg. 111. Includes some history notes. Came with wife on "Mary & John" 1630; settled in Dorchester, MA; moved to Windsor, CT in 1637.
DEATH: "Search", vol 7, pg. 111.

Dorset Parish Reg, Vol 7, NEHGR Vol 54. Encyclopedia of Britain Vol 29,p. 243. History of Windsor, Conn. pp. 647- 649. Searls Ms. Rec. Dorchester church Rec.
He migrated: 1630 on Mary & John, first residence: Dorchester, removes to Windsor 1638. & is buried there 15 May 1640 ae 49.
All secondary sources include in this family a son Joseph and a daughter Mary. This is derived from a pedigree prepared in 1731 by Mathew Rockwell, great-grandson of the immigrant (William) [NEGBR 2:99-102]. Mary is said to have married Jeffery Baker, so this is a simple error for Joan; there is no independent record for a son Joseph, who is in any case said to have died young. There may be some confusion with the children of William Rockwell's brother Richard, who did have a Joseph and a Mary among his six children.[from comments of; The Great Migration Begins, for William Rockwell]
In the spring of 1637, William Rockwell & Susanna his wife, removed with their children to Windsor, Connecticut.
Wm. Rockwell, who has been considered the ancestor of all of that name in America, was one of the deacons of the church formed in the New Hospital at Plymouth, which was the first church at Dorchester, the oldest in the Colony of the Bay except that of Salem, and the only church that came over in a body in church fellowship, the others being gathered here. Deacon Rockwell was one of the first "three selectmen" of the town, signed the first land grants, and was one of the "twenty-four freemen" who took the oath of fidelity, May, 1630.( The Rockwell Family of America p.17)
