Name	Ne Quan Ah Skeek, aka Susan, was of the Ojibwe (Chippewa) Nation whose tribal lands spread across northern Minnesota and Ontario, Canada. Name translates to "Eye of the Storm" (according to information from cousin). Several records list her name as Susan Maywapenais which is, presumably, a butchering of her father's name, Ma Qua Be Ness or May Gway Be Nais.

River **On this same day, Susan is baptised, Susan and Thomas are apparently married in the Catholic church and their 6th child, Matilda is baptised. All three events are on the same page in the church book. In a 1975 newspaper story about Susan, it states that she "told her children the Chippewa rules and customs and saw no conflict with the Christian religion." The Priest would not have worded the entry this way if they were not married in the Catholic church.
