James was born 14 November 1829 in Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina, the third child of Thomas Durham Fausett (6-15) and Anne Durham. On 1 November 1852 he married Elmina E. Bowers in Chapel Hill, Orange County. Elmina was bora 19 June 1829 in Chapel Hill, the daughter of Cannon Bowers and Martha (Patty) Lloyd. James and Elmina had seven children; Mary Green (8-211) Alphonzo Cromwell (8-212), Martha Ann (8-213), Thomas Cannon (8-214), Sara Elmina (8-215), James Wilton (8-216), and Tula H. (8-217). Elmina died 3 August 1876 in Cassandra, Walker County, Georgia. She is buried in Chapel Hill. James died 2 March 1892 in Manassa, Conejos County, Colorado. He is buried there.
