    • 1. (History of Vigo Co and Parke Co Indiana 1880 by H. W Beckwith) "William Parent, farmer of Sylvania, is a native of Kentucky, born in Hardin Co of that state. He is the son of David and Jane (Awbrey) Parent: his father died in 1844, and his mother is still living and resides in Kentucky. In 1852 Mr. Parent moved to Indiana, locating in Parke Co where he resided for six years, when in 1858 heremoved to Eugene Twp, Vermillion Co. In 1865, he enlisted in the 149th Ind Reg. Co E and served until the close of the war, when he returned to Eugene, where he continued to reside until the springof 1869, when he returned to Parke Co. and settled on his present location., where he has a good farm of eighty acres, well improved and in a good state of cultivation. In July 1856 he was married toMiss Elizabeth A. Stanton, daughter of Solomon Stanton, one of the pioneers of Liberty Twp. Mr Parent is a leading member of the A.F. and A.M. (Masons) and in politics is strongly Republican.2. (Civil War Pension records from National Archives) William Parent served as Private in 149th Reg. E Comp. Indiana Volunteers under Capt. Joseph S. Dowdle from Feb. 16 1865 to Sept 27, 1865. The 149th served in Tennessee and Alabama. His pension request mentions a back injury due to loading heavy artillary on railroad cars.3. (1870 Census, Indiana, Parke Co. Liberty Twp. pg 6) William Parrent listed as a farmer who owns $2000 in real estate and $500 in personal property.4. (1880 Census) A foster daughter, Susan Brewster, 11, lived with family and did housework.5. (1900 census) worked as postmaster and owned his house in town.

      William K, Parent, farmer, Sylvania is a native of Kentucky, born in Hardin County of that state. He is the son of David and Jane Awbrey Parent; his father died in 1844 and his mother is still living , and continues to reside in Kentucky. In 1852 Mr. Parent moved to Indiana, locating in Parke County, where he resided for s ix years,when, in 1858, he removed to Eugene township, Vermillion county. In 1865 he enlisted in the 149th Ind reg., Co E, and served until the close of the war, when he returned to Eugene, where he continued to reside until the spring of 1869, when he returned again t o Parke county and settled on his present location, where he has a good farm of eighty acres, well improved and in a good state of cultivation. In July 1856 he was married to a Miss Elizabeth A. Stanton, daughter of Solomom B. Stanton, one of the pioneers of Liberty township. They have a family of three boys and one girl: David, Jane, John and Perley. Mr. Parent os a leading member of the A.F . and A.M., and in politics is strongly republican.
