1821 Immigration of Louis Martin Charpentier, Jr. and family
1821 Immigration of Louis Martin Charpentier, Jr. and family
Ship Juffruw Johanna to Port of New York
    (arrived 16 October 1821)

Marten Scharpentier, 45, Boer [Farmer], born Courons [Couranes]
    Maria Werner, 35, born Niederauerbach
    Jacob, 11, born Niederauerbach
    Lourents, 17, born Limbach
Johan, 1 year 6 months, born Limbach

note: 2 known sons do not immigrate with the family:
George Bartholomaus (born 1797)- not listed on ship and marries in Limbach in 1825
and Johann Daniel (born 1811)- not listed on ship and marries in Limbach in 1842

Jacob could possibly be an illegitimate son of Margaretha Werner. He does not fit any of the known Scharpentier children and is born before Martin and Margaretha marry in 1814. More research is needed.

Martin Carpenter died before 4 March 1856 in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. He died intestate, meaning he did not leave a will.

    March Term 1856
Martin Carpenter owned 100 acres. Adam V Carpenter, an heir, petitioned the court to equally divide this land between Martin's 7 heirs: widow Margaret and 6 children: John, Martin, Adam V, Elizabeth (married E B Goodwin), and Louisa (married William Erwin). Henry is missing from the list of heirs, but his name appears in later probate records.

    June Term 1856
Martin Carpenter's 100 acres cannot be equally divided between the heirs. The land was valued at $500.

    September Term 1856
Henry Carpenter, an heir, wanted to buy the shares of the other heirs.

    December Term 1857
Henry Carpenter purchased the shares of the other heirs. The court was deciding if he should pay more into court.
