- After the death of Catherine's first husband, Hugh Swinford, she became governess to the children of John of Gaunt, later to become his mistress and concubine, at which time, she bore him four children. After the death of John of Gaunt's second wife, Constance, they were married (1396/7) and later that same year, their children were legitimized and their marriage was confirmed by Parliament which sat between 22 Jan and 12 Feb 1936/7 and by the Pope in September 1396 and by King Richard II in Feb 1397.

- Blanche was sealed to John of Gaunt and his third wife Catherine. Catherine and John had four children in all sources searched. New England History and Gen. Reg. # 974 B2ne 1967 Ogden Gen. Lib., lists her as a child of his mistress, Marie, with Catherine and her four children.
