  • Notes
    • No birth or bap. rec. has been found. About dates for his birth & mg.. The historian J.J.Clute gives us his Abt. dates but do not know where he found it. Stephen Martineau was probably born on the Old Dorp Farm near the Northeastern shore of Staten Island. His position in his fathers family was as the oldest son as given in his fathers will; his father had conveyed to him part of the original patented land, lying in a place which had come to be called Castletown. (1) -- Staten Island Patients, msc. at Staten Island Historical Society Vol. pps.22, 143, 267.
His Will, written, 19 May 1800, states he is in Southfield,Staten Island. Southfield was a larger area which contained ;Old Dorp, Castleton, The Manor, etc.. Staten Island is a small island,8 miles by 14 and a half miles, containing many named areas, not true towns or townships such as elswhere.
He died 9 May 1901 in Southfield & was buried in the Moravian Church Yard, New Dorp., Southfield, Staten Island,Richmond, New York. (2) -- UBMC rec. in NYG&B 974.7 B4ne Vol.4 pps. 165,
      170, 171, 210, 215 for his family.
His Will dated ,19 May 1801 & proven ,27 May 1801, is found (3)--New York Wills Liber 32,p. 231. Stephen is mentioned in his fathers will probated 4 Aug 1779.
