    At a Convention of the Whig electors of Huron County, held at Norwalk, on the 4th day of Sept. 1845, John Miller was called to the Chair, and Edward Baker and Jairus Kennan were appointed Secretaries.

    Norwalk Whig Meeting.

    Pursuant to notice, a meeting of the Whigs of Norwalk was held at the Court-House on Saturday evening last; for the purpose of appointing delegates to the County and District Conventions, to be held at Norwalk on the 29th inst., and also delegates to the Congressional Convention to be held at Wellington, Lorain Col, on the 27th inst.

    A meeting of the citizens of Norwalk was held at the Court House on Friday evening, February 26th, for the purpose of concerting measures for relief of the suffers by famine in Ireland and Scotland.

    Platt Benedict was appointed Chairman and P.N. Schuyler, Secretary.

    On motion, Judge T. Baker was chosen Treasurer.

    The following gentlemen were appointed a committee for Norwalk township to solicit and receive donations, viz: Theodore Baker, Obadiah Jenney, Platt Benedict, and Bruno Silva.

    C.A. Preston and J.M. Farr were also authorized to receive contributions at their offices, either in money or provisions.

    On motion each person present at the meeting was constituted a committee to collect donations and bring in the same on Wednesday evening the 10th of March next.

    It was resolved that a county meeting be held at the Court House in Norwalk, on Wednesday evening the 10th of March next.

    Resolved, That a copy of the proceedings of this meeting be furnished by the secretary to each of the papers of this village for publication.

    On motion the meeting adjourned.

    One of the oldest attorneys in the state, Philip N. Schuyler, of Bellevue, died on May 15 at the age of eighty-seven years. He was admitted to the bar in Akron in the late forties, and was mayor of that city from 1852-1854. He soon thereafter removed to Bellevue, where he had resided ever since. He was a delegate to the National Republican Convention in Chicago in 1860, and seconded the motion which turned Ohio's twenty-nine votes to Lincoln and secured his nomination.

    Schuyler, Phillip N., a son of Garrett Schuyler, was born in Minisink, N.J. on September 6, 1819. In 1829 he moved with his parents to Ohio. He later went to Norwalk where he attended school and taught school. He studied law and began practice in Akron, Ohio, but returned to Norwalk in 1854. In 1859 he was married to Elizabeth Thatcher. She died six years later. In 1870 he moved to Bellevue, where he died May 13, 1907. He left two sons, W.T. and Hamilton. He was one of the charter members of the Firelands Historical Society and was three times president of it. He was a delegate to the republican convention which nominated Abraham Lincoln and seconded the motion which turned Ohio's votes and gave Mr. Lincoln the nomination.
