The Dutch Reformed Church in New York City (Presbyterial) was the first church in New York State, organized in 1628 on Manhatten Island with a population of 270. Until 1803 services were in Dutch. It is now known as Marble Collegiate Church on Fifth Avenue; Rev. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, pastor since 1928. The obit is with a note from Evan: "charles was born in Nebraska, Augus t 18, 1885. Sept 20, 1919 he married Rachel Cordelia Young in Oakdale, Al len, Louisiana. The 1930 census has them living in Beauont, Jefferson, Te xas, ward 7. Sometime after that they moved back to Oakdale. The son, C.G .(Charles GODFORD. they made a mistake on the birth certificate, and hi s parents kept the name) was a pharmacist in Oakdale. He is the only on e still living. Here is the obit. I suspect that the picture must date to about 1890 since they are accompanied by only one child in the picture. The child must surely be Stella since she was thier oldest. My information places the family as living in Barneston, Nebraska at that time.
