14206 | Got the phone call today. Steve died this morning. He sung a solo in church, and sat back down next to his wife, my aunt Linda. When she leaned over to tell him he had done so nicely, he wasn't breathing. Heart attack. Not his first, but this one took him. My father, Linda's oldest brother, will fly up to Ohio from Georgia tomorrow to be with her. Most other siblings are in the state and will be close by. What a shock. He's mid-sixties is all. The Halleys are such a long-lived lot... this seems decades early to have such a hole in our ranks. | Miller, Steven Charles (I50)

14211 | Grandma said she received an orchid from Hawaii when Bobby was born - Grandpa sent it to her - he was stationed there (US Navy) at the birth of his 3rd child. He was sent home when Bobby died. He didn't get to meet him in this life. David was about 2 yrs old then, and my Father Richard (Dick) was about 3. Grandma said that my Dad held his father's face in his hands, sitting on his lap all the way home from Chilicothy where Grandma had retrieved him when he was sent home. David sat between them, in the days before seatbelts. | Halley, Robert Lewis (I48)

14215 | Grandma was a football cheerleader one season. When she was about 10 years old she played sandlot baseball. She had a boyfriend who was usually captain and he'd say, "I'll take her." She was the only girl that played - she loved sports all her life. She and "Sadie" were the only two in her class the first few years in school - just two in her grade. A one room school house with 8 grades. Up front to the recitation bench for class, back in the room for studying. 3 or 4 kids in each grade. She was in the first grade, 6 years old, when mother died. Dad remarried and her mother's mother adopted the kids. ********** | Snyder, Thelma Marie (I41)
