| 13532 | Daughter of Robert and Eleanor Elliot. Wife of Samuel Stonehocker Obituary: Published on Dec 14, 1894 in the Ashland Clipper. On last Saturday, Dec 8, at 12:35 o'clock p.m., Mrs. Jane Elliott Stonehocker died at their home in this city. There were present of the family, Mrs. J. H. Stonehocker and daughter, of Sumner County. and S.A. Stonehocker and wife of this county. Deceased was born in Ireland in January 1822, and was therefore 72 yrs and 11 months old at the time of Her death. She removed with her parents to Coshocton County Ohio in 1829, And was married to Samuel Stonehocker Dec .1, 1842. There were born of this union five sons, and four daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Stonehocker removed with their family in April, 1865, to Nodaway Co. Mo, and from thence to Elk County and finally to Clark County, May 1885. Mrs. Stonehocker leaves a husband, four sons and two daughters to mourn the loss of wife and mother. She had been a member of the Old School Presbyterian church for 51 years at the time of her departure, and after a dutiful life she fell asleep by the "gates of light" peacefully in a saviors love. Grandma Stonehocker may not have been immaculate, but her heart ever opened with a benevolent fullness to earth's unfortunate and was warmed by a generous ray of philanthrophy. Shw was passed to that bonrne(sic) from whence no traveler has yet returned, but her memory will quicken the pulse of her aged husband, and be a tender recollection in the hearts of her surviving children. Uncle Dave's farm is just north of our home farm ( approx. 1/2 mile from the state line. Myrtle inherited the family farm and still lives there. He died in his sleep at age 54. Ethel's mother was one of the Grandville Hiner family. She was staying with her Uncle George Hiner when she met arried David. NOTE: The following was copied from Ethel S. Armstrong's death notice in the Harrisonburg Virginia newspaper. ETHEL S. ARMSTRONG Ethel S. Armstrong, 102, of Staunton and formerly of Moyers, W. Va., died Monday evening (May 22, 1989) at the Liberty House Nursing Home, Waynesboro. She was born July 22, 1886 in Fraatrick Henry and Elizabeth Jane (Hiner) Stover. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Her husband, David Eli Armstrong, died July 29, 1942. She is surivived by two daughters, Myrtle Armstrong of Moyers and Hannah Graham of Mt. Clemens, Mich.; a son, Jack Ray Armstrong of Staunton; two brothers, Stanley of Huntington, W. Va., and George Stover of Belington, W. Va.; 13 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 27 greatgreat grandchildren. A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Cemetery, Moyers, by Dr. Woodward D. Morris. Pallbearers will be Paul Thompson, Craig and Barry Armstrong, David and Victor Douglas and Ronald Jr. and Ronald Armstrong. Friends may call at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell and also at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Douglas, 832 Ellen St., Staunton, where she had made her home before entering the nursing home, at any time.
