Daniel C. Meekins Jr., 85, a retired personnel director with the National Labor Relations Board, died March 12 at Montgomery Hospice's Casey House in Rockville. He was a Potomac resident.

He died of a blood disorder, said his son William H. Meekins.

Mr. Meekins retired from the NLRB in 1981 after 37 years of federal service. He earlier worked as a personnel officer for the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the State Department.

Daniel Clifton Meekins Jr. was a native Washingtonian and a 1944 graduate of McKinley Technical High School. He served in the Army during and after World War II, including service in Japan with occupation forces. He served 20 years in the Army Reserve and retired as a sergeant major.

His wife of 46 years, Marie Astorga "Camilu" Meekins, died in 1999. Survivors include three sons, Daniel L. Meekins of Lanham, Richard C. Meekins of Gaithersburg and William H. Meekins of Olney; and seven grandchildren.

On 09122019 the records indicate Santo Tomás, Chontales, Nicaragua, However it is belived that the records are based there even though Maria Camilia Astorga Calonje and her twin sister Maria Lidia Astorga Calonje were born in Villa Sandino, Chontales, Nicaragua.
