Loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Edmund August Demke, 85, died July 4, 2002, Salt Lake City, Utah Born August 5th, 1916 in Salt Lake City to Ernst F. Demke and Meta Zigahn Demke. Married Myrtle Edith McKnight May 1, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Dad was trained as a cook in the C.C.C;'s, was a pastry chef at the Hotel Utah, worked at Strevel Pattersons where he met his lovely wife. He started as a pipe fitter at the Utah Oil Refinery. Later trained as a fireman, then became fire chief at the refinery. Dad trained many of Salt Lake City & County fireman, in the proper techniques of fighting oil and gas fires. Dad was also a member of and past president of the Utah Fireman's Association. Dad was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions including ward Sunday School Superintendent, Young Men's president, ward Financial Clerk, counselor, and Bishop of the Belvedere Ward. Dad held the national highest batting average for Softball for a year. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. Survived by six children, Kent and (Claudia) Demke, Kathleen and (Jack) Searle, Pat and (Reed) Jensen, Ray Demke, Don H. Demke, Jack and (Kim) Demke, two sisters Evelyn D. English and Magdeline D. Barraclough, three sisters-in-law Eva Demke, Gloria Demke and Diane Notestine. Also a special daughter/niece Sandy (Harry) Zuckerman of Boise, Idaho. 28 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle, parents, two sisters, six brothers and one grand daughter. The family would like to thank the staff of Garden Terrace and Harmony Hospice Care for their help and care. Funeral services will be Monday, July 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Belvedere Ward 607 East Downington Ave., (1830 South) Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple and one and one-half hours prior to services at the Ward. Internment at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
