1858 Petition for Guardianship for Children of Jones Chapman

23 February 1858, Spartanburg County, South Carolina

The minor children of Jones Chapman: William L, Louiza Catherine, Eliza, John, Sarah Caroline, and George W Chapman.

Document 1: William L, Louiza Catherine, Eliza, and John Chapman are all over the age of consent (12 years old). They are entitled to a share of the estate of their grandfather, William Chapman. Because of their minority, there is no one authorized to receive their funds or look after their interests. They petition that J M Bowden may be appointed their guardian in chief, who will enter into a security bond.

Document 2: Nancy Mary Ann Chapman petitions that Sarah Caroline and George W Chapman are minor children under the age of 12. They are entitled to a share of the estate of their late grandfather, William Chapman. Because of their age and minority, there is no one qualified to look after their funds and protect their interests. They petition that J M Bowden may be appointed their guardian in chief, who will enter into a security bond.
