      W. Jean Hallmark, Beloved Mother and "Grammy," 71: Jean Hallmark passed away from cancer on Friday, October 24, in the home of her daughter in San Jose, California. She was born on January 28, 1932 in Weiser, Idaho. She was the oldest child of Harold Jasper Palmer and Delma Mae Kelso Palmer. At an early age she moved to Walla Walla, Washington where she finished her primary and secondary education. She graduated from Walla Walla High School and continued her education at Whitman College where she worked as a laboratory assistant. She married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Grow Hallmark, on July 20, 1948.
      In 1956 she was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On June 4 1958 she and Ronald had their church wedding, "sealed for time and all eternity," in the LDS Temple at Cardston, Alberta. Jean served in numerous leadership and teaching positiions for the LDS church, in their Relief Society, Primary and Youth programs.
      Jean was a hard worker who held many positions in the work force at a time when women were discouraged from having careers. She was an invaluable employee to many doctors over the years, working as a medical secretary and transcriptionist. She had many hobbies as well, including a voracious appetite for reading. All who knew her could not help but be impressed by her wealth of knowledge. She wrote poetry and song lyrics, as well as the occasional play for amateur theatrical productions. She loved the outdoors and made several hicking trips into the Wallowa Mountains of Oregon State. She traveled extensively, visiting nearly every state in the country. She lived in many parts of the world, including Hawaii, Alaska, Israel, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia. Jean also enjoyed traveling through Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, the highlight for her being able to stand atop the Great Wall of China.
      Jean is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, her six children and their spouses, her fifteen grandchildren and her seve great grandchildren. Her six children are Ronald Bruce Hallmark, Penny Lynn Cherry, Robert James Hallmark, Theresia Ann "Tracy" Felt, Alan Lee Hallmark and Sammantha Hallmark Seals. She is also survived by her brother, James Wilson Palmer [WW] and her sister, Darlene Marguerite Anders.
      A memorial service in celebration of Jean's life will take place at the LDS Church on 2nd Street in Walla Walla, Washington on Saturday, November 1 at 10:00 am, with a viewing at the Herring Funeral Home the night before, Friday, October 31 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. All family members and friends are welcome. Jean will be laid to rest at the Walla Walla Mountain View Cemetery.
