Funeral services for the 73-yr old loan association official will be held at 2 pm Thursday at a local funerl chapel with the Rev. Robert Hermann, Evangelical minister, officiating. Masonic funeral services will be conducted by Jefferson Lodge No. 43 at Riverview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clifford G Scruggs, Arthur Busch, Paul Wishmeier, Alfred A Peasner, Theodore M Schmidt and Frank Railton.
At the time of his death, Mr Zuendt was executive vice president and a member of the board of directors of the Mutual Savings and Loan Association.
Mr Zuendt, who lived at 414 E Capitol Ave, was president for a short time of the old First National Bank of Jefferson City before it was merged with the Exchange National Bank.
Mr Zuendt was born May 10, 1882, the son of William M and Antonia Wagner Zuendt. He was born in the home of his maternal grandmother, the late Mrs Elizabeth Wolfrum Wagner, which was built by his grandfather, Christopher Wagner shortly after the Civil War. This building still stands at the corner of Moreau drive and Vineyard square. He was born 4 months after his father and grandfather Wagner were killed in a railroad wreck during construction of what is now known as the Bagnell Branch of the Missouri Pacific Railroad.
His heritage dates back to German stock on both sides of his family. His maternal grandparents came from Bavaria in 1838 to settle in Cole County and his father was born in 1854 in Castle Mendelheim, the family home near Munich, and came to this country in 1858. His great-grandmother, a duchess of Bavaria nobility, resided at the castle Schloss Ranau in Alsace-Loraine where the Thirty Years War was ended by signing of the treatry.
Mr Zuendt attended local schools and graduated from the old St Louis Manual Training School. He became associated with the First National Bank in 1902 and held almost every position until his health broke and the bank was merged.
In 1925 he was appointed to the office of State Commissioner of Finance by Gov. Sam A Baker. Mr Zuendt spent many months in California in 1932 because of poor health and upon his return to Jefferson City he was elected a director and secretary of the New Cole County Savings and Loan Association. He also entered the insurance business here.
Recently Merged - The New Cole County Savings and Loan Association was recently merged with the Mutual Savings and Loan Association.
In 1907 he married Miss Fredrica Morlock, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W H Morlock. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, William M Zuendt of El Paso, Texas, and Robert E Zuendt of Canutillo, Texas; and a daughter, miss Lucille Zuendt of Honolulu, Hawaii.
He was a member of the Central Evangelical and Reformed Church. He also was a Mason being a member of the four York rite bodies here and also a 32nd degree member of the Missouri Consistory No. 1 of the Scottish rite in St Louis. He also was a noble of the Moolah Temple in St. Louis.
