      Letter from John & Elizabeth Walkup to James & Sharlotta McAlastor, 3 March 1852 (spelling & punctuation as written-spaces where think sentences ended): "...we ar all well at presant... your Father and mother is well and live wher Baley Settle in the forkes & Baley and Co Sosen [Susan] lives where vanveber lived Sary [may be Belcher] is moved to Welsey Jacobs & Sary is verey unwell and has bean for some time the rest of Baleys Famley is well Co Sampson and Elizabeth and famley ar all well thay have 7 children. Sosen [Susan?] has got 4 by Baley Shack [Meshack] and Addaline and children ar well and they have 5 children George Smith and Mahaley and thair famley was all well when i heard from them Jackson and James ar marred and live 4 mildes [miles?] above Shack Dick and Ann was well and family your Father heard from your half sisters thay live in Ohio thay ar rich and most of their children ar marred William Smith and Nancy and theair Famley ar well thay was at my house a few dayes ago and thay was all well Emeline is marred to harvey Jacobes thay have one child and nerley a nother one thay look evry day for our doges to bark Mc Smith is marred to Pop Bennett a bout 3 months ago.
