The Utah Society of the Sons of the American Revolution: Application for Membership for Samuel Claridge Young-18 Feb 1948
    Transcribed from the document:

I Samuel Claridge Young being of the age of 70 years hereby apply for membership in this Society by right of lineal descent in the following line from JOHN YOUNG who was born in Hopkinton, Middlesex, Mass., March day of 6, 1763 and died in Illinois on the 12th day of October 1839 and who assisted in establishing American Independence. (father's record)

I was born in Glendale (Orderville) county of Kane, State of Utah on the 24th day of April, 1877. I am the son of JOHN RAY YOUNG born 4/30/1837 and his wife TAMAR JANE BLACK born 5/1/1852, died 7/31/1915 married 5/9/1870

(2)grandson of LORENZO DOW YOUNG born 10/19/1807, died 11/21/1895 and his wife PERSIS GOODALL born 3/15/1805, died 9/16/1894, married 6/6/1826

    (3) great-grandson of JOHN YOUNG born 3/6/1763, died 10/12/1839 and his wife AGIGAIL HOWE born 5/3/1766, died 6/11/1815, married 10/31/1786

JOHN YOUNG is the ancestor who assisted in establishing American Independence, while acting in the capacity of soldier, a volunteer without pay. Private, Mass. Militia.

My Ancestor's services in assisting in the establishment of American Independence during the War of the Revolution were as follows: I have heard my father, JOHN RAY YOUNG, say that JOHN YOUNG, when the war began, was living with his uncle, possibly, WILLIAM, born 1 June 1753, who was a doctor. There were members of the minute men. When the call came they left a yoke of oxen standing in the field where they were plowing, and went on duty. They donated their services.

At a JOHN YOUNG family gathering on 6 Mar 1942, a daughter of BRIGHAM YOUNG said, 'Records show that JOHN YOUNG wintered at Valley Forge, and crossed the Delaware River with Washington and took part in the battle that followed against the British."

Copied from Utah Historical Quarterly, Vol. 14, Oct. 1946. "John Young, a father of Lorenzo, fought as a youth in The Revolutionary Ward, company under George Washington. Young Young's father dies in 1769, and the boy John Young was raised by his uncle William Young, who was born 1 June 1753."
