    Notes
    • There were at least two Willis Johnson in Texas in the 1840s. Peter Hansborough Bell, the governor of Texas, issued a proclamation in October 1851 stating that murder had been committed on the body of Willis Johnson on or about 25 October 1848. In 1859 Sarah Allday, the oldest child of Willis and Nancy Johnson filed a suit stating that her father had died on or about 20 December 1853.

Some of the documents in this collection pertain to one of the "Willis Johnsons" living in Texas in the 1830-1850's time period. Everything that has been found has been posted on this site in order to aid in the collective research of all interested parties. As evidence is found to determine documents that refer to the Willis Johnson that died in 1848 they will be removed from this collection.
