    • Aert sailed in 1695,at age 20, to the Indian Ocean aboard the pirate vessel John and Rebecca in the position of Ship's Carpenter. After an initial pirate voyage, he settled in Madagascar, where he engaged in trading slaves and supplies to European mariners - his exploits being chronicled by Daniel DeFoe.
      He married a Madagascan women (or Women) with whom he had children by circa 1703. He was last heard of 25 May 1714, in Madagascar, where he probably died.( For details of AertVan Tuyl's life, see:" A Van Tuyl Chronicle", Chapter 6. ----He possibly could have died at sea with his brother Capt.
