Charles A Michael Sr-83, a native of Pilot Rock, dd Friday at Community Hosp. He was bn Pilot Rock 28 Dec 1885 (Hist sys 1886), sn of pioneers, Frank & Mary Michael. He md Ethel Shafer 24 Nov 1909 at Pilot Rock-ranched in PR until 1966,when moved to Pendleton.
He was mmbr of White Eagle Grange, OR Cattlemen's Assn, Pendleton Grain Growers & BPOE 288.
Survivors: widow, 5 sons: Chas (Alexander) Jr, Wallace & Robert (& Shirley)-Pendleton; Eldon & James-PR; dau Barbara Short; Sisters OR. 4 Sis: Marie Cuff-Reno NV; Nora Kidwell & Iva Redmond-Portland; Bessie Wegner-Pendleton; 13 gchildren; 10 ggchildren.

Of the Charlie and Ethel Mike clan the following are still with us: Frederick Wallace (goes by Wallace) wife Norma, Robert (Bob) wife Shirley, Barbara Short w.all in Pendleton and James (Jim) and Aunt Pat, still in Pilot Rock. They are great storytellers and remember they're Grandparents, Frank was quite the character. It is a BIG family secret that he shot a man and stuffed him in a well, of course it's out now, I even scooped my Dad on that one. But there are 2 versions, My grandpa told me it was over a misdeed to one of Franks daughters and that he was there. The other, was that it was over cheating at poker (for which he was a notorious poker player) I could see that. As a little girl my folks would send us kids to stay with Grandpa and Grandma Mike for a time every summer. I was to young to follow my Bro and Sis and older cousins around and so I stayed with my Great Grandpas, who were best friends and both Charlie's, (Horn and Mike) in the bar in Pilot Rock. We played poker and had great burgers for lunch. I was told allot of stories that I wish I could remember!! But "Cards" were a serious matter and "cheaters" were akin to horse thieves. That, I remember being told over and over.
