Source: The Washington Times Newspaper Marie 'Camilu' Astorga Meekins Diplomat Marie Camila Astorga "Camilu" Meekins, 73, who retired in 1978 as consul and cultural affairs counselor at the Nicaraguan Embassy, died of cardiac arrest Feb. 4 at Suburban Hospital. She lived in Potomac. Mrs. Meekins was born in Chontales, Nicaragua. Her father was Gen. Luciano Astorga, defense minister and presidential candidate. She was posted to Washington in a cultural affairs assignment in the early 1950s. She was a member of the Capital Speakers Club and a volunteer at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Potomac. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Daniel C. Meekins Jr. of Potomac; three sons, Daniel L. Meekins of Lanham, Richard C. Meekins of Gaithersburg and William H.
