Joe Resch and Barbara Jiracek had been childhood classmates and had gone to St Wenseclaus School in La Crosse together. Joe worked as a street car conductor and motorman before they got married. On September 6th 1900, Barbara, and her sons Paul and Joe, came to Minneapolis and would have had to live alone. But Joe Resch wanted to get married right away. The priest said no for a special evening Mass and no waiting period. When Joe said they would then have to go someplace else to get married that night, the priest married them in the priest's house. Their first child, Irene, was born in Minneapolis on Nov. 29, 1901 and baptized at the same church.
