He migrated: 1630 on Mary & John, first residence: Dorchester, removes to Windsor 1638. & is buried there 15 May 1640 ae 49.
All secondary sources include in this family a son Joseph and a daughter Mary. This is derived from a pedigree prepared in 1731 by Mathew Rockwell, great-grandson of the immigrant (William) [NEGBR 2:99-102]. Mary is said to have married Jeffery Baker, so this is a simple error for Joan; there is no independent record for a son Joseph, who is in any case said to have died young. There may be some confusion with the children of William Rockwell's brother Richard, who did have a Joseph and a Mary among his six children.[from comments of; The Great Migration Begins, for William Rockwell]
In the spring of 1637, William Rockwell & Susanna his wife, removed with their children to Windsor, Connecticut.
Wm. Rockwell, who has been considered the ancestor of all of that name in America, was one of the deacons of the church formed in the New Hospital at Plymouth, which was the first church at Dorchester, the oldest in the Colony of the Bay except that of Salem, and the only church that came over in a body in church fellowship, the others being gathered here. Deacon Rockwell was one of the first "three selectmen" of the town, signed the first land grants, and was one of the "twenty-four freemen" who took the oath of fidelity, May, 1630.( The Rockwell Family of America p.17)

William married Susannah Capen 14 Apr 1624, Holy Trinity, Dorchester, Dorset, England. Susannah (daughter of Joan Purchase) was born 5 Apr 1602, Dorchester, Dorset, England; was christened 11 Apr 1602, Dorchester, Dorset, England; died 13 Nov 1666, Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut, United States. The Connecticut settlement "was in a frightfully exposed position. isolated with no more than 250 men capable of bearing arms. It lay within reach of as many as 5,000 fighting barbarians: 1,00 of them, two days march to the Eastward. Pequots, most warlike of all."(See Makers of America-- John Winthrop-Twitchell, page 170). 30 men were levied in Windsor (History of Windsor, Vol 1, pp. 67-68) Windsor also furnished 6 suits of Armour, 60 bushels of corn, 50 pieces of Pork, 30 # of rice & 4 cheeses.
The corn was to be ground & 1/2 baked into biscuits The expedition had a hoghead of beer, some strong water & sack. Capt. John Mason of Windsor led the expedition and a decisive battle was fought May 26 1637. (The extermination of the Pequots was dictated by the imperious instinct of self-preservation) A grant of land was also given to each soldier, and to this day, the memory of an ancestor in the Pequot fight is anhonorable heirloom in every Connecticut family.
