They did not have any children and later moved to Cambridge Nebraska and Blackfoot Idaho. In later life, Daniel Bales lost his eyesight, due to accidents. He and Matilda were of the Mennonite Faith. She died 1902. Son, Levi Beals, a widower since 1878 and who left Grundy Co MO in 1898 to reside in Nebraska cared for his blind father until [he died] July 1905. Burial for both just west of old Bales homestead.

    1917 DEATH,BURIAL: MO,Linn Co-Browning: John Brumbaugh died 24 Feb 1917; buried White Oak Cemetery 26 February 1917.
    Cemetery located at "White Oak Grove (Baptist) Church since 1872" on Highway 5 coming in from north to Browning, maybe 2-3 miles north. John has a large stone behind the church. Most of Brumbaughs buried there. In the newer area to the left of the cemetery are Aurelia and Lillian and 2 more girls of George, son of John (according to Ray Alspach of Browning) and perhaps Theodore Dotson, Virginia's boy.

    HIST: Feb 1962 letter from Neva Bales to June Smith Hallmark: "John Brumbaugh & Abigail Rodgers family: There was 2 sons, George and Johny Watt, and 4 daughters. And they did raise a grandson, Bob Brumbaugh.

    Beyond Hoover Cemetery to west is a road to Ray Alspach's farm land. Some of this land to left was thought to be Brumbaugh Bottom and Ditch, but Ray says it is called Duncan Bottom.

    BUR,MIL: Feb 1962 letter from Mrs. Neva Nickell Bales to June Hallmark: "This is what I found in White Oke Cem: Abigail Rodgers Broombaugh dd first. I can remember her. She dd of TB at age of 73. Bn 20 Nov 1840, died 21 Apr 1913. John Brumbaugh bn 5 Feb 1836, died wasn't on marker, but he lived several yrs after he lost his wife. He was blind for years, was a Civil war soldier.
    Now, I don't know who this George Brumbaugh was...must have been John's father. This was all that was on the marker: George Brumbaugh 1800-died 6 Apr 1898. All of these people lived long. Aunt Lou is still living and is 84 yrs young. All the Brumbaughs, I reckon, are dead, as far as I know.
    I am Neva Nickell Bales, was 63 yrs old Jan 19 [1962?]. Would love to hear from you if you have time to write. I had 7 children, one died at age of 20 months. A son lives in Bremerton WA. A dau lives in Tacoma WA. The others live here in Nebraska. I have 18 grchildren, have 2 gdau md, no great grand ones on the road. Address: 323 West 11th St, Fairbury, Neb.
