    PP 158: "The progenitor of the Hallmark family in Houston County was George Hallmark, who lived on Mustang Prarie, and for whom a small creek is named. He was a prominent man in his day and accumulated a large estate during his lifetime. He made his will on August 16, 1848, which was provided in the County Court on October 25, 1852, and same was recorded in Book I of the deed
    records of Houston Co, TX. His estate was appraised at $17,000.
    In this will he bequeathed to his three youngest sons, Richard M Hallmark, Ephraim L.B. Hallmark, and Alexander C Hallmark, 3 negroes named Solom, Charity and Little Tom, stating that Little Tom was the youngest Negro he owned, and provided in said will that said Negroes should work for the use, benefit and support of said three children until they shall be of age; or the youngest one marries, at which time they shall be equally divided among them. Just how this could be accomplished, the will does not undertake to provide. The rest of his estate is equally bequeathed to his children, Polly Box, William C, George W, Lee Anna Rosser, John B, James M, Alfred H, Aveline Stedham, Matthew DT,
    together with Stillwell Box's 6 children, who out of their part shall put in $640, which if they do, would be entitled to an equal part of the property, together with seven Negroes: Peggy, Big Tom, Harriett, Charles, Simion, Elizabeth, and July. This same George in 1843 was postmaster at Mustang
    Prarie.

    Richard Mynatt bn in England 1729 came to US 1754 & settled in Prince Wm Co, VA. Here he md Sarah Cumming 31 Mar 1755. Children bn in Prince Wm CO: Lena 1756, Wm 1757. In 1758 Richard mvd to Fauquier Co where 3 girls bn: Margret 1759, Elizabeth 1762, Sarah Ann 1764. He then mvd to Hampshire Co VA(now in W VA) in 1765-6 & lvd there thru 1773 in the eastern section of the co. (See Hist of Hampshire Co W VA) nr Cacapon Rvr. A son & 2 dau bn: Geo C 1767, Hannah 1769 & Nancy 1771.
    Richard mvd to Botetourt Co 1773. Some mention made of Richard in Robert Danthat Stoner's bk "Seedbed of the Republic." Mr. Stoner is a native of Botetourt Co, had been co official most of life & lvd in Ante-Bellum house that belonged to Geo Hancock, whose dau md Clark of Lewis & Clark team.
    During Richard's stay in Botetourt Co, the co was divided, Richard taken into Montgomery Co, Christiansburg the co seat. A son & dau bn: John 1774, Susannah, no date avail.
    Sev mentions made of Mynatts in old rcd at cthouse: mg licenses, deeds, leases, etc. Richard owned 400 acres (1730) on North Fork Roanoke Rvr, somewhere bet Lusters Gate & McDonalds Mill (abt 8 mi in length) according to rcds. The property laid across the "Great Road" which ran along no frk Roanoke Rvr. The Great Rd went from PA west to KY then. Mentions of Mynatts in Annals of SW VA 1769-1800. Rcds at Christiansburg include in Deed Bk Vol C pg 63, Mynatt to Altizer for consid of L50, Richard Mynatt & wife Sarah S transferred title to Ambrose Altizer 400 acres of land on waters of no frk Roanoke Rvr (1787).
