    Notes:

    Christian, was one of the first settlers in Somerset county, Penn., and there located, establishing a farm, which lies in the center of the great coal region of Pennsylvania. The coal vein on the place was fifteen feet deep and the yield added greatly to the prosperity of the owners.

    The farm has always been retained in the possession of the descendants of Christian Lichty, who died upon that place leaving the property to his children. In his family were the following: Jacob, born in 1791; Susanna, in 1794; Anna, in 1796; John, in 1798; Samuel, in 1800; Daniel, in 1802; David, in 1804; Magdalena, in 1807; Elizabeth, in 1809; Joseph, in 1813; Daniel, in 1818.

    CHRISTIAN LICHTY BURIAL GROUND
    Situated on the old Lichty farm near Coal Run, in Elk Lick Twp., in the second field about the buildings, at the edge of the old orchard, in sight of the village of Coal Run. Transcribed from WPA records by Jean Wall

    This Indenture made this 27th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight between Jacob Lichty and Barbara his wife Jacob Fike and Susanna his wife David Shultz and Susanna his wife Samuel Moyer and Magdalena his wife Michael Moyer and Elizabeth his wife Emanuel Lichty and Barbara his wife John
    C. Lichty and Elizabeth his wife all of Somerset County and state of Pennsylvania of the first part and

    Samuel Lichty of the County and State aforesaid of the second part whereas Christian Lichty late of Elklick Township Somerset, County died seized of a certain tract or parcel of land that the said ten Grantors and their wives for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred and sixteen dollars and twenty five cents to them in hand paid by Samuel Lichty of the second party to this indenture at and
    before the sealing and delivery here-of the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge and thereof acquit and forever descharge the said Samuel Lichty his heirs executors and administrators by these presents have granted bargained sold alienated enfeoffed all that parcel or tract of land lying and being in Elklick Township Bounded and marked as follows beginning at a stone heap and a corner of
    the original and running thence by the same north forty nine degrees west thirty six perches four tenths to an Ironwood north twenty three degrees west twenty seven perches three tenths to a walnut north seven degrees west twenty three perches and seven tenths to a maple sapling north forty one degrees east twenty seven perches two tenths to a chestnut chestnut grub thence by Nicholas Keims piece and part of the same southtwenty degrees east one hundred and five perches and two tenths to stones thence by land of Peter Livengood wouth forty nine degrees west twenty five perches three tenths to the place of beginning containing twenty acres one hundred and seven perches and allowance of six per cent for roads etc. with the profits commodities advantages hereditaments and appurtenances, whatsoever, thereunto
    belonging or in anywise appertaining and the revisions and remainders rents issues and profits of the said premises and every part and parcel thereof and all the estate right title interest part (said Jacob Lichty Susanna Fike Hannah Moyer John C. Lichty Daniel Lichty David Lichty Magdalena Moyer Elizabeth Moyer Joseph Lichty
    and Emanuel Lichty were or are sons and daughters of said Christian Lichty deceased) of in to or out of the said part parcel and piece of land and premises and every part thereof To have to hold the said piece of land and all and singular other of the premises also mentioned with the appurtenances unto the said Samuel Lichty his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said Samuel Lichty his heirs and assign forever. And this said parties of the first part for themselves and their heirs the said piece of land premises and every part thereof against them and their heirs and against all and every other person or persons whomsoever claiming or to claim by or under and will warrant and forever defend by these present In witness whereof the parties to these present have hereunto
